This is a little video I put together of three stalks this spring season. Every spring the Game and Fish open a special conservation season to help reduce the population of the species. These things can live 20 years and are incredibly intelligent, which makes them very difficult to decoy. Many times the only option is to sneak hunt them. If you don't have anything nice to say about....don't say anything.

  • ok what do you do with 100 dead snow geese?

  • @TheDeathsmarch Actually, if you soak the meat in salt water over night, cube it, soak it in italian dressing, wrap it in bacon, then grill it with peppers, mushrooms, onions etc. it tastes as good as any duck that you've had. The mark of true hunter is how good he cooks what he kills :-)

  • I have a couple of gillie suits and a cow decoy. I am hoping one or the other can get me close. When a flock is feeding in a field what kind of time window do you have for a stalk? I know I can get right into them with the gillie suit but you have to move kind of slow. Any tips for spots? Do you target a particular type of field, feed, lakes. Appreciate the thoughts.

  • @Tim7346 I've heard a lot of guys try the cow decoys, and I've heard mixed reports. As far as how long they stay down, it really depends on where you are. I've talked to guys from IL that say the flocks wont feed longer than a half hour before they get up. You could try a gillie suit, but I'd do it on a week day or someone else is going to get at em before you do. FORGET water if at all possible. If you think chasing cripples is hard in mud....don't even think about water. Look for a rolled...

  • @Tim7346 rice field if at all possible, but I know this varies from state to state. Ideally, a wheat field is the best, but they don't use them too often around us. Good luck.

  • Great video! You really have the sneak down. Any tips for getting close? I will be doing a couple spring hunts in the Dakotas and would like to learn how to sneak them.

  • @Tim7346 Biggest thing I could recommend is not to underestimate them. People think you don't need to try very hard to stay hidden, but they stay alive by catching predators before they get close so keep out of sight as much as possible. Also, listen to them when you get close. You can normally tell what the group is doing by the sounds they are making. If they get nervous they will get vocal and then actually quiet down a lot. If they see something, they will normally shut up all together.
