Even though I love this version I just have to clarify.. Technically, it's not a John Lennon song, it's a Beatles song. It was released in 1994 as a Beatles song. It was an unreleased John Lennon demo, and he's the only one who wrote it, but the Beatles played the instruments and sang leading and backing vocals.

I don't think he admitted that he was a "huge asshole". I know he stated that he was bitter at times and was pretty inconsiderate to his son Julian. He was still a nice guy - there is a lot of footage of him in the band's early days where he actually seems like the nicest one of the lot haha. I think he just had hidden insecurities and would often lose his temper.

I love John Lennon. He's one of my biggest heroes. But by his own admission he was a huge asshole. Especially early on in life. It may be something he grew out of but there are countless accounts of him being pretty hateful and unpleasant behind the scenes.
