Islamist Militants Blow Themselves Up

Another suicide blast to tell you about in Pakistan. Two Islamist militants who were planning an attack in Karachi blew themselves up when police raided their hideout today. Heres more.

STORY:
Karachi's police chief says the raid occurred after a tip-off from a suspect arrested earlier.

The chief told local TV that there was an exchange of fire between the police and militants before they blew themselves up and the house collapsed. He also added that the militants were planning an attack on Karachi city.

Pakistan is battling Islamist militants in the northwest. Militants they have responded with suicide bombings across the country, including one on the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad last Saturday.

Most foreign companies operating in Pakistan are based in the commercial hub of Karachi.

The southern city has long had a reputation for bloody sectarian feuding and militant violence but it has been relatively peaceful this year.
