how does he get that sound out of his upright? Obviously some kind of electric pickup, but what kind? where is it placed? Either way, he sounds fantastic. If only i had his practice work ethic...
one of the best doggone bassist alive!!i was there at blues alley and asked Brian for every bit of info i could get about his incredible sound and facility!!!!
Yeah I agree that is a pretty ignorant thing to say. You'd have to actually listen to his stuff before saying he's like "Eddie Van Halen of Bass." Besides, even though Eddie Van Halen is good, he can be a little oblivious as to what he plays, but Bromberg doesn't do that at all.
Beautiful Sound and melodic approach. His technique is amazing. That early 17th century bass has one of the most beautiful sounds I've ever heard. I cannot believe Ben Allison hated on him on the blind fold test in Jazz TImes. Its one thing to say you don't dig his style but to be totally negative and refer to him as the Eddie Van Halen school of bass playing is totally ignorant. By the way I totally dig Eddie Van halen as well. Ben Allison wishes he could play 1/4 as well. Brian = BASS GENIUS
PLEASE put all this stuff on DVD, you'll have lots of customers (including me) as there just isnt enough great double bass playing out there for fans of the style.
