on a non-apple keyboard, the "command" button equivalent is the "windows" button, not "alt" so that may be why the "alt+F2" buttons didn't work to switch the displays.

Does this work in Vice versa as in using your Imac as your main computer and a laptop as the external monitor to be used as a mixer window or anything else

You should probably use "teleport" software to use just one set of mouse / keyboard for both of your computers:
