Fred Tate is a gifted pianist, a maths genius, an incredible artist...and he is only seven years old. But this child prodigy is also adrift.

Shunned by his peers and bored by his schoolwork, Fred is stifled by his environment. Desperate to encourage his potential, yet afraid he will miss out on a normal childhood, his single mother Dede reluctantly allows a psychologist to enrol Fred in a school for exceptional children.

But when he is rushed headlong into academia, Dede's worst fears are realised--Fred is more isolated and alone than ever. And it is up to Dede to become what little Freddy's been looking for all along...a mother.

This film is amazing, Jodie's part it's great, and the scene where Fred gives invitations to his birthday party and they all end scattered all over the playground breaks my heart. Great fucking movie!

I loved this film because it highlighted all the challenges of gifted children: the need to put them in an appropriate academic setting, the need to give them opportunities to shine in their areas of giftedness, and the need to remember that they're still children and to let them relax sometimes and just be kids.
