The double set of glass elevators used at Les Ailes mall, which used to be the Eaton's department store. Unfortunately only the metro level, ground level and 1st level work, the rest are locked out. I believe it's an Otis, but I would like some confirmation on this. I was disappointed that most of the floors were locked out, but the elevator itself operated quite smoothly and fast.

  • I hate restricted access as well. I tried to ride up on the old elevators at Place Ville Marie and they recently added a swipe card that you have to pass before the buttons will be activated. So I was stuck on the ground floor. I guess I should be lucky I didn't get up to the top and then not be able to get back down again. The Les Ailes there is an elevator bank where the original department store elevators were, but the entrance door is restricted, but the elevators work. Lots of security too.

  • Well hopefully they will do something with it one of these days. It definitely has potential to attract people. I just want to ride those glass elevators up to the top. I don't really know why they keep the upper floors locked. It's just offices like any other building. I'm not a fan of restricted access. I don't see the need for it. At least not during business hours.

  • It's a place I'd really love to visit again. I remember going there when I was younger. They used to have really old manual elevators back when the store was opened, and they had these people with white gloves pull the lever to go to each floor. Before they closed the store. I wish I had gone to the restaurant before, it was $12/pp and back then it was pretty expensive, but now it would have been pretty reasonable. I went inside though and looked around. I wonder what it looks like now?

  • That's too bad. They should re-open it.

  • When it was a department store it went up all the way to 9 and they even had a 10th floor. Now it's all offices up there, and a really old restaurant with a huge cathedral ceiling that's been mothballed for about 10 years now.

  • I wish they would unlock those floors. I would love to be able to take that elevator right to the top. I wonder if there was a time when you could go all the way up to the top floor.
