Some band members stayed for years, some for only months, several went to become shining stars in the country & wetsrn firmament while others are totally unknown or known only by their first name.
The band was the brainchild of John McIntyre, station announcer (and later film actor), and Glen Rice, station manager, at KMPC Los Angeles. The original members were: * Tom 'Pappy' Murray ('Black Larsen' in Charlie Chaplin's 'Gold Rush), Cyprian 'Ezra' Paulette, Leo 'Zeke' Mannes and Henry 'Hank Skillet' Blaeholder.
Within a few weeks they added Aleth 'Lem Giles' Hansen and later still Ashley 'Jad' Dees. In its early days various artists came and went - notably Elton Britt and Stuart Hamblen - but the longest serving members were Exra, Jad, Lem and Charlie Slater who specialised in 'mother songs'.
Zeke Manners left for New York in 1931 as did Elton Britt.
