@WhiteFangofWar That was why it was such a massive threat in MGS1. Because the terrorists could have fired a nuke anywhere, and the people on the receiving end would have no idea who was responsible.

Now if you look at the Shagohod. Sure it could launch a nuke from any flat three mile stretch of terrain, but it's missiles still required a propulsion system. So they wouldn't go unnoticed. And what's the point in firing a nuke when everyone will know you've done it? It's suicide.

@WhiteFangofWar Not even close. It's certainly more realistic, given current technology. But Metal Gear was far superior.

Take REX for example. That thing could fire a nuclear missile from any terrain, and hit any target anywhere in the world. Not only that, but because the "missile" was being fired from a rail gun it didn't need a built in propulsion system. No burning fuel means no heat signature. If REX fired a nuclear warhead, it would be completely invisible to satellites.

@WhiteFangofWar Afterburners are only useful on flat land. Limiting yourself to a specific location. Metal Gears are more 'war machines' then just nuclear launchers. The shagohod is more or less a bulky, portable missile launcher, and that's WITH all the requirements met. On top of that, the vehicle is supposed to be able to move around easily without need of heavy guard and protection. In other words which is more capable in a combat situation; a Metal Gear, or the Shagohod?

'Legs? Where we're going we don't NEED legs!'  Shagohod's treads are faster than a Metal Gear's legs even without the afterburners. Sure it wouldn't be able to function on rocky or sloped terrain, but presumably the driver is smart enough not to drive it there.

Is it just me, or is the Shagohod more versatile than most of the Metal Gears it precedes? Afterburners, missiles, machine guns, maser gun... and it can keep going after losing its rear half.
