Good footwork and proper mechanics make these little throws easy. Mechanics of underhand feeds, short throws around the bases, double play feeds and pivots.
On a pivot to 2nd. I prefer to open my hips, my right foot toe and knee pointing at my target, the closed rt. foot & knee, awkward, tight position your youngster is in restricts his hips, body & arm throwing movement which leaves only the arm being involved during his throwing movement, I emphasize quick, fluid, rhythmic body movement during a pivot.
His pivot to first is great, having his throwing side to the infield side puts him in a natural throwing position.donervin1
As is obvious the pivot to second base situates the throwing arm side to the right field side and positions the body in a non- natural throwing position while the pivot to first situates the throwing arm side to the infield side into a natural throwing position which makes it easier to get stable for and during the throw to 1st. since the throw is off of the stabilized right foot, your young player's pivot to first is excellent.
Great break down demonstration and explanations, being a devout individual skills and team fundamentalist I thoroughly enjoy viewing demonstrations such as yours and being on the field teaching them, friends of mine call me a spring training coach due to the fact that I stay with the important individual skills as you demonstrate.
I use a 12 ft.circular area around 2nd. base as the maximum distance for the under hand feed with a very straight arm and very firm wrist.

Hello again hq4marty,
Not enough allowed words so I will piece in.

sweet advice, such things are often overlooked or considered trivial.
