The original Little Mermaid really gets a pretty crap deal. "The man you love still loves that other chick, but here, do some charity work for a millennium!" And there isn't even a jaunty musical number.

  • Original fairytales are so depressing. Modern fairytales are about dreaming, happy endings, and making the impossible happen. Old fairytales are dark, twisted, and there is never a happy ending.

  • @TheBookVlogger That's not true! Lots of them have a happy ending-- Cinderella, for example. It's just getting to that happy ending wasn't quite as bippity boppity.

  • As a kid I hated the original story because she didn't get the prince in the end, but the idea of there not always being a happy ending is really refreshing.

  • WOAH WOAH WOAH. Jackson with knife! -RUNS AWAY-

  • In the little mermaid there is "sea foam" the other mermaids that don't well accomplish their deal. They turn in to little brown things so i don't think Disney and Hans is so far off except well the happily ever after, but the details are there! Just not in sequence .

  • I honestly hate the Disney version of the little mermaid...Well, hate is a strong word so I'll say dislike! The original is just Soooooooooooooo much more meaningful, touching, beautiful & sticks with you. Out of all the fairy tales in the world. Hans Little mermaid had the most Impact on me as a child. I learned that You must take resonsibility for your own actions & faults & Always try to do good by others. & if you love someone, Make sure they are happy. Even if you cant ever be apart of it.

  • I like original fairytale or fable endings that tragic or a comedy. I'm mostly into tragedies and bittersweet endings because of the emotion and drama.

  • Have you seen Once on This Island?

  • Wow. That is a really complicated potion. Can you imagine the disclaimer on that label?

  • I would always do the hair thing when I was a kid too(: I even wanted to have long hair that stopped at my hip just like Ariel"s.

  • OMG im actually shocked that people didnt know the story of the origonal little mermaid my mum used to tell it to me as a bedtime story kinda dark but i loved it she kind of changed the ending in her version the little mermaid gets to heaven and can tell the prince that it was her that saved him and they spend eternity in love aww diddums :D Cant wait to read fathomless

  • I have the original little mermaid on vhs...and i was cleaning my room out last week, and i thought about sending it to you...then i realized...

who even has a vhs player anymore? lol.

  • i'm danish, so i grew up on the original Little Mermaid story. Its pretty funny because once i got into Kindergarten, we watched Disney's Little Mermaid one day, and I just thought it was complete and utter crap while all the other little girls were like "Prince Eric is so awesome!" and i was like "what's with the singing lobster..?"
