Merrill Moore was a boogie woogie piano player from Iowa. He has been hailed as an influence on the development of Rock'n'Roll, particularly the music of Jerry Lee Lewis. Moore seems to have been less than keen on this association, "I didn't care much for rock and roll". He was influenced by Bob Wills ('the king of western swing') and the country boogie pianist, Moon Mullican. Other musicians that influenced him included the pianist and swing band leader, Freddie Slack.

Rock Island Line is a traditional song, first recorded by the folk/blues musician Huddie Ledbetter (Lead Belly). See: http://tinyurl.com/2le4tf
