Here is how I changed the transmission fluid and filters in my 2006 4.7L 4x4 Jeep Grand Cherokee. If I have left anything out, please comment and I will annotations in for others to learn from!

  • Now I know why it costs $100 to get this done. And why I dont want to do it in my garage. I would need to buy a good jack and stands... huge pain. But damn, isnt it satisfying to do the work oneself?

  • @rattyboy31 - Yeah, it is definitely a pain, but just like anything, now that I have done it once, I now know what to do next time to make it go easier. It is a really messy job though, and if I do it again, I will definitely be installing a drain plug on that pan! : )

  • @jbrunsonjr thats weird, your transmission filter looks just like a oil filter, my transmission filter on my normal cherokee is big and flat.

  • @lol123321123321 Yeah, lots of different filters out there. My old TH400 used a slip on filter (similar to a sock). This one takes two different ones. I never cease to be amazed!

  • I'm loving the production quality of the video. I will chime in with some gripes though... you don't need and shouldn't use rtv on the pan. Just use a rubber pan gasket. Before you put the pan back on you should beat out all the bolt holes from the inside with a ball peen hammer and check the straightness. If you do that you should have NO leaks.

  • J thanks SO much for making this video. I went from the medical field to the business broker field so I barely knew what a transmissions purpose was lol. Brilliant in some thing and an idiot in others. Meanwhile my brothers take a frame of a classic car and hand build an engine and entire car and sell it for 40k 8 months later. You're hilarious and your videos are quick and to the point. Im going to email you for that diagram and I want to run an issue by you that jeep wants 1150 to fix b

  • @fathan16 - Many modern manual/standard transmissions use automatic transmission fluid and not gear lube.

  • @boomrecruits - Don't use any type of gasket sealer on the transmission pan. It's not necessary and as I noted above, can wreak havoc with a transmission.

  • @HiTechOilCo then what would you suggest?

  • Don't ever use RTV gasket sealer on a transmission pan gasket! When you tighten down the transmission pan bolts, the RTV can get squeezed out and *inside* the transmission which can cause the transmission to become plugged up with that goop and destroy it. *Never, ever use RTV on transmission pan gaskets*.

  • @lucasmorter - There is. Send me a private message with your e-mail and I'll e-mail you the step by step instructions.

  • @dassadutt - Filling the filter full of oil/fluid prevents a very undesirable no lubrication even until the filter is pumped full of oil/fluid and only then starts to flow oil/fluid. This prevents a lot of metal-to-metal wear from occurring.

  • @DtoWnSux1 - Just do a drain and fill and it'll be fine.

  • just an FYI, it is better to do not scrape off any old gasket material with a metal scraper. You can actually damage the metal which could cause leaks.
