How to crochet: lesson 1

This is my first ever tutorial placed on You Tube. I now have newer clearer videos available. I decided to leave these old videos on here because they are still being used by hundreds of people. I know the picture is poor quality. The actual tension and creating the stitches start at the3:00 mark. This is Part one for beginners The Bethintx method. knotless chain.

@kokihi1 I disagree. The price is what makes it great for beginners. You can tear it out and re-crochet it over & over. Then if the person does not continue with crochet they are not out of a lot of money. I chose it because it's low cost, it's easily available (in the US) and it is hard wearing. I like Red Heart yarns. Yes there are some better quality yarns, but beginners need to use something smooth that is not too slippery and can take ripping and re-use.

Turn on your annotations. You will see that there is a new improved video. You do not know how many beginners came to me wanting to learn to crochet with fuzzy yarn and a tiny crochet hook. I go into detail for a reason.

Everyone saying she needs to speed up needs to slow down themselves. Some people NEED to know the initial stuff like how to hold the yarn, and what the tool is and how to use it, and the best way to make a knot, and blah blah blah. This video was perfect for my pace, I went in knowing literally nothing about crochet, and taught myself from this video!

I learned to crochet years ago but didn't do much with it for years. I'm finally trying to learn to crochet new things, so I watch your videos a lot. I have a picture of a scarf that I'd love to make. Would you be able to look at it to see if it's something you know how to make, and if you have a video out there that would would teach me?

Thanks...except for the slip knot (your method just didn't work for me sorry) this was the perfect refresher course for me....all I had to do was find better directions for the slip knot which wasn't rd at all. thanks for the help in remembering how to do the chain :3

I was taught crocheting many years ago. Loved it. Problem with making afghan squares was that i ended up making socks instead. LOL
