TodaysNetworkNews: 08 December 2009 - UNTV - United Nations: The UN Peacekeeping mission in Haiti is implementing pilot projects in sanitation with new toilet systems that convert human waste into methane gas and then into clean electricity. This project is being assisted by the Brazilian technical experts that developed the idea in order to provide better sanitation, cleaner drinking water, a new source of clean electric energy and to thus also reduce the use of firewood for energy, further reducing deforestation of the country.
HAITI BIO-DIGESTOR HUMAN WASTE - METHANE - ELECTRICITY
@tianglade "Simple operation. The waste comes from toilets and enters the digestor. There a fermentation process occurs which produces biogas through the column of water (something something :-)). This biogas is used for cooking and to produce electricity. At capacity this unit produces 50 cubic meter of biogas per year and 30kW of electricity (during 24hrs not sure). The last part is fuzzy for me: "In this tank is water filled with nutrients with sun light produces something that is something.
