Introduction to Abstract Mathematics #1
Motivation and Introduction
I'm planning on recording a series of videos called Introduction to Abstract Mathematics. In these videos I'll eventually be treating elementary differential calculus from an advanced ("advanced" in the sense of "requires interest in math", not "advanced" in the sense of "requires lots of previous knowledge") standpoint, hopefully similar to Waterloo's MATH 147 course. You'll have to just bare with me for the first few lectures while I build the essential foundations required to get anywhere in math. I'll try to make it quick :P
=====
In this video I speak colloquially and not-so-briefly about the reasons why differential calculus is useful. In further videos I'll introduce notions such as sets, relations, and functions. Sorry if I seem oddly serious, but maybe you can get a laugh out of it.
(I'm just an undergraduate math student who enjoys teaching.)
Inspiring series man. When I get tired of Khan academy I come here!
Maybe you can give us a introduction to Category Theory sometime.

@plimsbury Thanks. I'm planning on starting to talk about analysis soon, but someone else suggested that I start planning out exactly what I'm going to say in each video, so I'm working on that right now.
I don't know much beyond the basics of category theory right now (the only third year course I'm taking right now is Complex Analysis; the rest are all second year), but I'm sure that will change soon. Interesting topic though; I'll definitely consider it when I look for a new series to start!
