This tutorial shows how to import and play a MIDI file in Zynewave Podium 2.28. Three different playback engines are used as examples:

1: The Microsoft GS Synth that is built into Windows.
2: Cakewalk sfz+ soundfont player plugin + FluidR3 GM soundfont. Both are available as free downloads.
3: SampleTank XT plugin + OmniSynth sound library. Commercial plugin priced around 50$.

  • OK I agree - it's unintuitive. Looks pretty functional, though.

  • Thank you, that helped me a lot, I really couldn't figure out how to do this! Thanks!

  • @ClodGripHandle Every application looks different. This app is rock-solid, extremely affordable, and keeps a bunch of needless gadgets out of your workspace once they have been configured. For now, I'm going with that trade-off. I'll be back to report if I agree with your overall assessment after burning through a project or two. Give it a chance, though, or we'll be stuck with the ridiculous prices charged by the "names".

  • Podium is probably the hardest DAW ever to use. It is extremely unintuitive. You have to read the manual to do even the most banal operations.
