  • Tamasheq is the language of these people. Tuareg is a name that was applied to them by early explorers and historians. They call themselves variously Kel Tamasheq, Kel Tamajaq "Speakers of Tamasheq" and Imouhar, Imuhagh, Imazaghan or Imashaghen "the Free people".
