After moving to the Midwest, I found myself finding some old drawings and papers for all kinds of my old concepts and designs.

This one, may interest you. Back in 1976, there were no digital cameras, no tiny LCD screens, no cell phones, and no personal computers.

This was 20 years before Windows introduced PCs with Win 95!

But I had an idea for a way to project a tiny TV image on a screen in front of your face. It could be hooked to a Portable TV or a VCR, I envisioned.

So I made this drawing. I showed it to my technician friends at Daden Accociates and Lark Engineering, where I worked.

They all loved the idea, but knew there was no kind of technology to makes something like that work.

Well, we all know that nowadays, we have virtual reality headsets, that are quite different than my design, but nonetheless, it is now being done.

Be that as it may, this is my plea to manufacturers who make cameras with no gunsights, or viewfinders,.

I hope they come up with a way to make EYE PHONES to see your subjects clearly, not squinting into the tiny screen with sun and light reflecting on it.

Seems logical to me, and I think Professional Videographers would love it too.

The Virtual Eyephones could be shut off at anytime with a switch to revert to normal viewing thought electronically controlled sunglasses.

The most controversial version I have come up with, would have OPTICAL TRANSMITTERS which could directly send the video signal to the brain through the eye.
Of course there would be stereo sound through the ears.

So come on camera manufactures, make me a set for my camera.

Thanks.
Dave Herbert.

  • to bad you never did a poor man patent.

self addressed registered letter with your idea signed and dated on the document.

and It even stands up in court. millions of bucks have been made this way.

  • Really. How about this video, does that count? It is copyrighted and publised. Thanks.

  • I found this link that has a few fairly reasonably priced package deals for setting up RC aircraft with long range video camera/video glasses.

You will have to throughly check the site to see them all.

  • Yep, seen all that new stuff. I did it with some bulky equipment myself already too. We did it back in the 70's. One of the model airplane magazines I wrote for, even published a picture of my setup. Of course I worked with RPVs in the military too and that helped. Thanks.

  • not a bad idea but have you seen the actual REAL Video Glasses people like n3m1s1s and jackycopter are using to fly their planes and helicopters? the stuff they use is tiny compared to these glasses :O n3m1s1s took me for a fly the other day and the glasses were picking up the video stream from across town! i couldnt believe it.

  • Of course I have seen them, but no 33 years ago, when I came up with this concept. We barely had calculators back then. There are no surprised today, but they still havent perfected optical transmitters, as I show. But one day they will.
