When you downshift (on the track atleast) you should blip the throttle to help gear changes. For a perfrect gearchange, engine speed needs to be the same speed as gear speed as I'm sure you will understand, a gear spinning twice as fast as the engine will have difficulty meshing. If you blip the throttle during downshifts, as the engine speed falls, it will reach gear speed, hence it will be easier to engage. It's relatively easy to do but it's hard to master. Practice makes perfect.

Yes, he didn't use the clutch on the way up. You can do this if you get the rev's right and lift of the throttle, but on the way down he most definately used the clutch. The R6 has a slipper clutch which prevents the rear wheel from spinning at anything faster than engine speed so when you dump the clutch whilst downshifting, it stops the rear wheel locking. They're a VERY useful bit of kit.
