To give an example, in parts of the muslim world they say it's a sin to kill a virgin female, so to get around it they're rape her first. Similarly, in the bible there is a clause that would allow you to force a woman to marry you if you rape her and pay her father.

Now i'm not saying i like or approve of any of these books, but it is the society that choses which parts to follow; it is the society that poisens the minds of the children. The books are just means to an end.

In these situations, the males are used to being on top and their religion gives them a means of supremacy over women. There may be select few men within their societies, but the overwhelming male majority hold on to religious dogma to remain on top. The bible distinctly puts women in an inferior position, but nations that are mostly christian don't have the same problem because the zeitgeist of women having rights caused them to ignore those parts of it as they ignore the kid killing parts.

I don't think so. Remember, we're talking about ENTIRE PEOPLES here. Each and every one of them a powerhungry madman willing to use his fellow humans as a stepping stone? Not bloody likely. I think this is because of cultural influences, and in these cases, religion is that cultural influence.

Those are people using religion to gain supremacy in their culture. Religion is a tool to them, a trump card they use to ensure that they're always right.

Think middle east. There are entire tribes and people in those areas who suppress the rights of their females, persecute homosexuals etcetera, not because they're particularly bad people - they would've been fine citizens in other, less religious countries - but because they grew up believing their sacred texts.
