Aphrodite's Child - System, Babylon, Seventh Seal, Aegian Sea

Aphrodite's Child is/was a Greek progressive/psychedelic rockband.

Between '68 - '71 they had an occasional Hit in the European Charts, they played music in the vein of the Moody Blues and such...
But before the album on which these songs are found was released the band broke up. (1972).

That album is ofcourse well know amongst music lovers, with the very distinguished name "666".
A loose adaption of the Biblical Book of Revelation.

Qui aurait cru qu'en 1971, Vangelis nous aurait composé l'un des meilleur album conceptuel de Rock Progressif ? Si 666 ne fait pas vraiment parler de lui dans le présent (à tort d'ailleurs), à l'époque il a suffisamment choqué pour avoir été censuré dans de nombreux pays.

En même temps, le nom de ce double album faisant référence au diable ne pouvait pas passer inaperçu. En effet, Vangelis s'est inspiré de l'Apocalypse de Saint Jean pour montrer

Dans le monde du rock, on ne peut pas dire que la Grèce soit réellement mise à l'honneur et pourtant, un groupe incontournable a vu le jour dans les années 60 : Aphrodite's Child.

Pour ceux qui ne le sauraient pas, ce groupe était notamment composé de Vangelis et de Demis Roussos .. oui, imaginer les deux réunis pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas le groupe doit paraître assez dingue mais c'est bien arrivé.

Most people don't know this but inspite of the title and the concept of the Apocalypse, the lyrics are full  of political inuendos about the turmoil in the sisties-early seventies with the youth protests in the USAand Europe against the Vietnam war and other anti-estaplishment issues. Just read the lyrics carefully. It begins with the sound of the crowd shouting ''we got the system to fuck the system''. And the picture inside the gate-sleeve is very suggestive.
