Charlie shares his musing on why people would refuse the gift of new life, forgiveness and eternal life? The mystery opens a lot of questions and of course the Bible is full of insights that shed light on why! But today looking back on my own life and the cross road of change I am totally struck by the fact that anything so wonderful could be refused.

  • They resist and reject because the love their own sins. They love darkness more then light, Jesus said. Even self professed Christians reject Jesus after forgiveness and rebirth, because they continue in sin, as we are told not to do. They will not pick up their cross and follow him...

  • There it is - as you say in simple words. The allure of the lusts of this world and its appeal, blinds the eyes of those who do not receive.

  • Thanks for your comment. A mystery usually leads us toward a revelation of other spiritual matters. --such as the god of this world blinding them, the power of vanity, or who knows, hmm. maybe God has not 'called them' (this is actually scriptural. : )

  • For many, religious belief seems superfluous- an endless game of unneccesary moralizing. Religious concepts such as Atonement are foreign to the way many people live in the world existentially. Such concepts are no more than poetry to unbelievers. Lastly, some feel that the Bible, particularly the OT is harsh and pitiless, which leads them to be repulsed by it- it cannot be morally justified in their minds, therefore it lacks any authority on any moral matters.

  • Good points Mathias, thanks for sharing; I was checking to find one scripture that in effect said, ' - you do not come to me because of your traditions (religious doctrine).. your comment reminded me of this. Also I added some references at the end to consider. charlie

  • There's nothing that we can do to get ourselves save or any contribution that we did in our part. It is totaly 100% the work of God and that is the Gift of God and his Mercy. We are all spiritually dead, like Lazarus. He was stinking corps, until Christ gave him a New Heart and a New Spirit and made him physicall alive and spiritually. That was a beautiful demonstration by our LORD that we are all spiritually dead, until he gives us a new soul, then we can claim, that we are the child of God.

  • I ask myself the same question every day. I am perplexed as to why there are so many God deniers -- but more so; people who seem to hate God. I don't understand it. It also makes me quite sad.

  • Yes
