Dr Sandman..as a CNM WHNP DNP I can tell you that not only did I earn the title, but in no way present my self as an MD. I am an expert in MY field, and you as an anesthesiologist, I am sure, are an expert in yours. I earned the highest degree in my field, you earned the highest in yours. Only a misguided sense of your own superiority, would allow you to call me a stinking nurse with a doctorate. Shame on you for your lack of understanding of birth, and knowledge of other medical specialties.

Yes, I know that having a PhD earns one the title of “doctor”. My mother has a PhD.

When in a health care setting, or discussing health care, someone calling themselves “doctor” will lead people to believe that the person is a doctor, rather than some stinking nurse with a doctorate. There’s a big difference.

@DrSandmann Obviously you do not know that having a PHD allows someone to use the title DR before their name. Psychologist, educators, social workers, etc do this. It doesn't matter the field. This lady does not have MD behind her name, which is the designator to indicated someone went to medical school. Just as JD is to a lawyer.

DNSC? It’s another one of those nonsensical nursing degrees that amounts to B-U-L-L-S-H-I-T. I don’t give a damn if it’s a “PhD-level” degree. The bottom line is that it’s nothing more than a ploy on the part of nurses to start calling themselves “doctor” while circumventing the supremely competitive and demanding processes of medical school and residency.

@DrSandmann it's a Doctor of Nursing Science. It's PHD level. Typically this degree is for academic or research purposes at the university level. These degrees are awarded at brick and mortar schools, not online. The current Dean of Duke University's School of Nursing holds a DNSC.

Another one of those bogus doctoral degrees that can be completed online that the various nursing professions are creating in the hopes that they can introduce themselves as "doctor" to patients....the way real doctors do?
