Is the promise of salvation via technology any different than the promises that all the religions of the world have been offering for thousands of years? Is the belief in mathematical equations more legitimate than the belief in the stories told in religious scripture? I have no idea, but I do know that the human desire to believe these things is exactly the same.

  • I`m speechless ............

  • One hundred and twenty five years old? Holy shit!

  • I too check the day each time you say it's Tuesday. Which is every time.

I agree with 1938superman on how this whole singularity business sounds a LOT like Ghost in the Shell, and frankly think it's all just cooky business and I wouldn't want to be a part of it even if we DID reach that point in technological advancement. I've said that before on another comment as well.

And you're absolutely right, it IS like all religions. It's a human need and it's just a different way to respond to it.

  • sounds like a nut job to me...

  • I love your disclaimers throughout the video of "I know NOTHING!"

    It is pretty interesting stuff!

  • everytime you say it's tuesday i have to stop and think about which day it really is. i often lose track of my days.

now to the main point of this: i don't know about this whole singularity-business, but didn't people sixty years ago expect us to be much further advanced by the year 2000 than we actually were? we can never really predict what's going to come next. most discoveries and inventions are made by accident anyways.

  • I prefer the here and the now beer. We all die when we are dead, so let's just concentrate on enjoying our lives.

  • i love wired magazine. and yes, today is wednesday and you said it was tuesday and that definitely added to the excitement of the video. immortality is quite the thought to ponder. interesting. thanks for sharing this. i am going to look into those articles. take care. ciao for now.
