  • Reason 3: Yes, this was very true. This also thrilled the West who was supporting the Mujahideen. As for the fourth, Afghanistan was already a Soviet client since the monarchy.

  • Reason 1: Not true. The Soviets never once considered annexing Afghanistan to the USSR. An agreement by both Soviet and Afghan governments agreed on a temporary limited contingent of Soviet troops to combat the Mujahideen.

    Reason 2: Not true. Afghanistan was actually just a left-wing nationalist regime allied with the USSR. The Soviets repeatedly decline the PDPA regime's request for military assistance until they saw the threat.

  • The third reason is simply crap, not true.
