DIY LP Record Cleaner : December 2010 Modification

I removed the tonearm of the Pioneer PL-512xturntable. It was replaced by a stainless steel plate on which is positioned a 3-way switch (on-off-on). This switch controls the engine start for the rotation of the turntable plate during the cleaning liquid application, and the start of the suction. The vacuum cleaner was placed in the black box under the turnable. The container receiving the waste liquid was placed on the side for easy access for emptying it.

Three holes were made on the wooden support of the plate: the first for the suction arm, and the 2 others for its guides (guides for the arm rest position and arm suction position).

  • What liquid is the one that you use? thanks!!

  • @bocatablanco

    80% distilled water

20% Isopropyl alcohol ((also named isopropanol, propan-2-ol, 2-propanol)

5 drop of dish washer liquid for one liter of liquid.

  • maybe some instruction as to how to do this? I just came into ownership of about 750 vinyl lp's that need to be cleaned. How would you suggest going about this?

  • @collinm140 For over 20 years this is how I clean my LP's. First wet a kitchen sponge add a drop of mild dishwashing liquid and clean the LP in a circular motion on both sides, Then rinse under luke warm water and dry with a fresh tea towel or paper towel. To finish place the LP on the turntable and with a Glasses cleaning cloth and a squirt of metho run the cloth from the inside out. Now your LP is ready for playing and or recording.
