This album should have won the Hugo Award or whatever they call an exceptional piece of science-fiction..It was nominated. Paul Kantner was robbed. Side 2 of this album continues to transport me to a more joyful world.

Back in 1970, my dream was to be one of the 7000 who hijacked the starship! I was right there in my mind....this is my favourite Starship album of all time and this is the best song on it....ahhhh what wonderful memories. Thanks for posting this song, it made my day!

@55kudu Actually, more than Star Trek it was primarily inspired by Robert Heinlein's _Methuselah's Children_ - enough so that Kantner sought and received permission from Heinlein. The wikipedia article on it has some great info.

Has nothing do with Jesus who was only a man and not the son of God. The song and album is about finding a new home not dying.

May the StarShip lead us to the home of Jesus Christ...our brother and savior
Purgatory...more of a process then a place.
Everything in the world turns to dust except the human soul...Pope Benedict XVI
Good tune, great piano

The gretest album by Kantner if not all of them. Nothing quite like it before or since... it was Star Trek inspired and a sci-fi movie in our minds. A space narrative done in rock style dripping in acid illucidation LOL. I have a friend who went to California and played tablas with garcia and was a member of the Diga Rhythm Band with Mickey Hart. He told me they would jam and then stop at 4 or 6 pm to watch Shatner's star trek in the 60s. He didn't like the show so he didn't understand them.
