Its possible the noise is totally normal. My S62 sounds slightly quieter then this one in the video, but i find its about average. Some are quiet some arent, but generally its considred a trademark of the E39 M5. If you listen to the E60 M5 with the S85 its even worse!

Did you ever replace the cam position sensor prior to the vanos? That sure sounds like a faulty CPS. They are known to cause the VANOS to get noisy.

wow myn isnt that bad yet and it sounds amazing after ... did u let a dealer do the new vanos?
