"Turkey can only become a member of the European Union if some clear criteria are met. And if a true debate on the borders of Europe is organized. Furthermore Europe and Turkey should be ready for this accession and i dont believe this is the case. The European Free Alliance believes that first of all, we have to draw lessons from the last enlargement. Because it clearly showed that the European Union was mostly focused on economic criteria. Also the political criteria embedded into the Copenhagen criteria should be respected. That means that the Kurdish population in Turkey should be recognized and respected. That doesnt mean like weve seen in the recent weeks that democratically elected mayors after the local elections were put prison. We also believe that the state of law should be improved and that the impact of Turkish army on the public society should be lessened. In any case, only when all those criteria are met we believe that Turkey can become a part of Europe."
