lol Cherry is such a nationalist when it comes down to it. Just dumb blind pride. He's lucky Canadians work so hard at hockey, because he'd stick to his argument even if Canada suddenly became the worst nation for hockey.

I believe the perception is that players in the Canadian major juniors (regardless if they're Canadian or not) have been coached and scouted to the point where their maximum upside is well-known. There's a greater potential that players in other leagues (Canadian or not) were mis-scouted, or mis-coached and have much higher upsides - so some teams see them as worth a gamble even though as a group, on average, they're likely to underperform those in Canadian major juniors.
