The original version was by The Zombies, however this version has always been superior. I bought the 45 when it came out  and still have it.

I was 12 in '69. My neighbor Joe and I were camping in the backyard, eating junk food and pointing my AM/FM radio antenna about trying to receive whatever new sounds we could find. Suddenly the spooky intro came in focus, and despite the yucky "I love you" sentiment, we were entranced.

Then the adenoidal "...And I don't know WHAT to sayeeyay!" line hit, and we erupted into gales of laughter which were just subsiding when it hit again, sending us into hysterics with each pass.
