Carrick Rodeo 2006

Tasmanians were outraged when in January 2006 this 'Today Tonight' program showed footage of a severely injured bull being kicked in the body and head to make him get up. The 'bucking bull' named 'After Dark' had injured his hindquarters in the arena at the 'Carrick Bull Ride' in Northern Tasmania, yet he was then forced to drag his paralysed legs into a yard and eventually up a ramp into a truck.
A local veterinarian was called to the rodeo, but it was an hour before she arrived. The bull was driven away in the truck, and reportedly killed. In June four people were charged under the Animal Welfare Act over the incident.
Just two weeks later, at another Tasmanian rodeo a horse broke its leg during a bucking event. It lay in the arena for 40 minutes before being loaded onto a float and taken away to be killed.
Observers attended five rodeos in Tasmania between January and June 2006 - three animals had to be put down, and another two animals received severe injuries during their events.
Rodeos are an abusive spectacle that cause inherent stress and suffering to the animals involved, and often injury.

fairdinkum you pack of wankers are so one sided out of all the years rodeo has been goin on all ya have is a handful of incidents that have happened there is more cowboys hurt every weekend from the sport the animals are well feed looked after i would much rather be a rodeo buckin bull then be on a maccas burger the other option for cattle.. and on dr harrys opinion bout that bull bein shot coz it was in pain it would of normaly been done then and there but you wankers would complian bout that 2

but the thing i hate about rodeos, besides their living and health conditions, is the /waste/ of horse. a friend of mine a has a fat, friendly, all-rounder showpony-like Quarter HorseX who was once a rodeo pony.

i don't like rodeos, but some are bad, and some can be good.

there's a rodeo around where i live every year, and i remember a few years back when i didn't know cruelty like this went on my family went to it, me and a friend went round the side where the pens were to see if we could see any of the horses, and we saw three horses in one tiny pen, all were lame with cuts or swellings, and all were shitscared of us. ever since then when i've gone to that rodeo, you can't see into the pens anymore.

okay so im a bull rider right. that stuff sickens me aswell, i hate cruelty to animals. im wast brought up on a farm or around rodeo or anything but i wouldnt be getting on them if i wasnt 100% sure that it wasnt hurting them. there are some accidents in all sports and yes there should have been a vet there but every rodeo ive ever been to there has been a vet.

Yes there are people that abuse animals but at the same time there are people who abuse their children , want to ban folks having kids! This bull in the video obviosuly got injured and if their were human cause,error then yes the person being at fault should be punished . attack the problem not the industry , Im sure the respectful rodeo folks will back you 100% in your effort to end animal abuse!

Theres a reason why theres no cameras aload. Cause of sick minding folks like you. in fact a camel resting. a lady called the cops cuase she said she a vet and said that camels dyin. that camel lived a nother 10 years.
