  • Wow beautiful ride.

Hey i havee a question, ive only been inside a 78 el camino, and i plan on buying a 69 or 70. Does your '70 have the 'Trunk' space inside behind the seats? I know that the '69's compartment was on under the bed, covered up. and my 78 it was inside the car behind the seats, but yea, is the box open inside yours? and if not do you thing it would be possible to cut it open so the 'trunk' could open up into the inside?

  • @EyeDoStuff - I'm not certain for other years, but my 1970 has an opening behind the driver's seat that goes up under the bed. The passenger side is closed in, but the same space exists there as well. The compartments are actually the seat wells for the rear seat of the Chevelle station wagon, which is what the A-Body El Caminos were built on. Other shared parts with the wagon are the front fenders and headlight extensions and the frame. Hope this helps.

  • @dscabra Yes that helps alot lol thanks, yeah i knew about the wagon part,So one last question, does your elko have the comparment outside on the bed aswell? or just the inside behind the seats? if so instead of a 69 i wouldnt mind going up one year lol

  • @EyeDoStuff - Yes, you can access the entire space from the bed. There is simply a panel that can be removed easilly from the bed. In fact, this is a key area to check for rust when buying one of these cars, as well as the channel along the bottom of the rear window.

  • The 69 has the same smugglershatch as the 70, 68, 71 and 72. (it's all the same car except for a few differences like the design of the front grille and some minor changes.

Cutting it open to access it from the inside. I wouldnt do that. Cutting it could compromise the structural strenght of your body.

If having a trunk means that much to you, buy a chevelle. don't mutilate the car.

P.s. with a bench seat you have a hard time accessing the area behind you when driving so there's no point

  • @dscabra Thank you very much sir.
