This story was originally written as novel.

Kaiten (That means "breakthrough of war situation") is
Human controlled homing torpedo.

1,375 of young men trained for pilot of Kaiten.
And, 106 of Kaiten pilot was died.

Koji Namiki was baseball player of college.
And he volunteered to Navy for defend his family and girl friend.
(In those days, college student was exemption from military service)

Navy is decided to use Kaiten and recruit pilots.
Koji was worried about that.

But he decided to become a Kaiten pilot.
Because he thought impossible to save Japan without this way...
