National Flatpicking champion Scott Fore dropped by the Virtual Woodshed recently to film some instructional videos. We weren't going to let him go until he filmed some of his contest winning fiddle tune arrangements. Here he lays down some tasty licks on the old standard Ragtime Annie. Be sure to visit Virtualwoodshed.com to see more material from Scott!

  • This guy won 2011 flat-picking contest! It is amazing how relaxed he is...almost like he is in a state of slumber...amazing talent! Thousands and thousands of hours practicing in order to get this good!

  • @bigmuddy1 Thanks for the encouraging words this is an absolutly phenomenal video very green from watching!!!!!

  • Killer sweet pickin'!

  • @Felkanator Don't cry or set your guitar down! I'm always inspired by really good players and have already livened up some old stale breaks I've been playing the same way too long. His book is on my list of must haves. But you can pick up a lot just by watching these videos and it's always nice to have something to shoot for!

  • Hadn't heard of this guy until a few minutes ago. I like it when people play

so effortlessly, it's like they are nonchalant or almost asleep. Are you sure he's

not playing in his sleep? I know he's not looking at his left hand as he's playing

like I do - and I still can't play a quarter as well! Whether he's dozing off or

watching a bug amble across the floor, I don't care, I still went to Amazon and

ordered his 'Flatpicking Solos' and instructional book. But I'll look at my left hand.

  • Scott,

I really like the crosspicking and open string runs you pull out in this song!

  • Yeah!

  • I am using a Wegen pick. It is a TF 140, and I cut them down a bit and re-bevel the edges. I have used the Ultex picks. I also use the Blue Chip pick as well. The Wegen has become my standard pick. Thanks for purchasing the book. If you have any questions about the arrangements or playing the tunes in the book, feel free to drop a line and I will try to answer any questions you may have. Thanks.

  • Scott - great playing! Wondering what kind of pick you're using here. Looks like a Wegen but it's hard to tell. Have you tried the new Ultex triangular picks? Cheap and awesome, I think. I'm gonna buy your book. : )
