@hakudoushinumber9 I agree racism is still huge, I was just challenging the claim that racism is more ACCEPTED than homophobia in the USA. E.g. unlike racism, LGBT discrimination is legal in all but a couple of states and LGBT status isn't covered by hate crime legislation. Bullying surveys show more name-calling is about orientation and gender-nonconformity than about any other trait, including race, yet teachers intervene over it LESS often than over most other name-calling.

i know this is a little late but, alot of people thing that racism no longer exists when any 'member' (for lack of a better word) of a minority can tell you that's not the case. Being gay or lesbian, it's the 'grossness factor' (some of it out there is alittle... off...) so because of this it gets more press time, Racism otoh doesn't get air time unless a celebrity or a tv host says something then a bunch of kissasses get on tv and make a big deal like it's something new when it's not.

@cymonebreathe Do you think racism is more socially acceptable than homophobia in the USA? It's a worse problem in certain ways e.g. jury bias and unconscious prejudice, but more socially acceptable it isn't, hence people bother hiding it. Racism on air has got hosts fired or at least apologising, never homophobia. Few people now dare say publically that interracial marriage should be illegal, only same-sex marriage. Racial job discrimination is illegal in every state, gay discrimination isn't.

On a similar note, in Thailand the Thai Red Cross doesn't allow homosexuals to donate blood (if Wikipedia is correct).
