@sekereterra there are a lot of different things free kicks are paid for, and there are often rule changes between seasons when they think something isn't working well. But some of the main ones are high contact, push in the back (during marking or tackle), holding the ball (being tackled with prior opportunity to have gotten rid of the ball), throwing the ball instead of handballing, holding a player without the ball, running more than 15 steps without a bounce, etc.

@dragons4ever2007 I chose to ask you this question because yours is the most recent comment. I'm an American lady and new to the game so some of the rules are escaping me. I fell in love with it almost immediately while surfing TV channels. I've learned enough to keep me interested. But, when exactly does a player get a free kick?

It was six-and-a-half years ago that Sydney had this terrible shocker against the Saints, at this very venue.

"he was faking handballs to players who weren't there" :P

Hey bro, thanks for the upload. I agree with SaintBluey... but am I wrong, or was this game Week 1 Finals? I'm trying to see our last game of the year against Hawthorn which I'm pretty sure was the 2nd week of finals.
In any case, amsterdam aussies thank you!

@jimmyjimmyshortcakes The first elimination final and second elimination final are both games that are played in the first week of the finals.
