Paul Otlet, a Belgian bibliographer, pacifist and entrepreneur imagined a day when users would access the database from great distances by means of an "electric telescope" connected through a telephone line, retrieving a facsimile image to be projected remotely on a flat screen.

If you ask me, internet is the greatest invention of all time, after the toilet.
This world lacks visionaries like this guy these day's.

What Gore actually said was, "During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet.”
This statement is true. Up to that time, there had been no such thing as "the internet." There was a government-sponsored, government-funded project called "Arpanet". Gore turned that over to private enterprise, and called it "Internet." From the legal and financial perspective, he did bring it into being.
And isn't privatization what right wingers dearly love?
