This is *not* a toy, gadget, or app. It's an pretty precise and sensitive instrument satisfying the demands of performing professionals.

[For the tech-savvy: Spatial resolution: smaller than 1mm; velocity resolution of the sticks: about 1cm/s at the moment the stick hits the drum membrane (which is 1/1000 of the actual speed at that moment); time resolution: 100 fps. The 4 actual sensors (Qualisys Oqus Infrared 3D Cameras, with Qualisys QTM Realtime Protocol) are hidden innocently between the stage lights at a distance of 5-8 m above and beside center-stage.
The instrument itself - in the configuration customized for Mr. Kappenstein - has a total of 72 velocity-controllable samples scatteres in mid-air, yet, he knows exactly where they are and what to do with them...]

Thanks to:
- Institut für Musikermedizin, Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber, Dresden (Loan of Infrared Cameras)
- Societaetstheater Dresden
- Günter "Baby" Sommer for inspiring the notion of things you hear but don't actually see
- Eric Schaefer and Baby Sommer for making D.K. the drummer he is
- Prof. H-C Jabusch for his willingness to cherish an exploratory approach to science and scientific gear
- Jan Gieseke for tons of valuable input on dynamic layering of samples, for beta-testing and feedback
- Jacobs and Melitta for all the coffee that has been metabolized directly into software code
- D.K. for cake and strawberries!

  • Absolut genial !

  • Absolut geil!
