Winin Boy Blues
Jelly Roll Morton did not record this tune on solo piano until the famous sessions organized by musicologist Alan Lomax. Shortly thereafter in September 1939 in one of the last sessions he recorded it with his New Orleans Jazzmen. In this band he had Sidney Bechet sop sax, albert Nicholas clt and Sidney de Paris trumpet.
For many of us revival musicians this was of course a musical highlight and we have put our own stamp on this tune.
We play it here at a festival in Indianapolis in 1991
with Bob Erwig cornet, Mick Lewis clarinet, Pete Sagerman trombone, Jack Vincken banjo, Chris Daniels bass and vocal and Jamie Aug drums
