Sept 27, 2008 - Bruno Vassel IV filmed a cross country flight in his ASW-20BL sailplane from Cedar Valley, Utah to Kemmerer, Wyoming and back home. At the furthest out I was 131 miles downwind from Cedar Valley and it was snowing ice crystals from the clouds all around me. Fun!

I talk quite a bit about what is happening during the different stages of the flight and what I am concerned about in getting back home. The flight ended up being 5.5 hours long, my altitude ranged between 10,000 ft and 17,000 ft MSL. Overall, a very fun and beautiful day to fly!

  • did you have oxygen with you?

  • @michelarjuna Absolutely! I turn it on around 10,000 msl. We get up to 18,000 ft on many flights here in Utah so we pretty much use oxygen on every flight. Bruno

  • I fly in the UK. but i tell you what... its nothing like this.. this is just amazing... not much oportunity in the uk for such spectacular soaring. some may dissagree.. We have some great competitions but the altitude and views you experience are out of this world.. Many thanks for posting

  • @dixie71666 :) Thanks for the kind words. I hope to make it out to the OK some day and fly with you out there. I can't wait to see your green country. Take care and be safe.

  • I am SO JEALOUS!

Im currently a glider student in Denmark, and I'll fly my first solo-flight this summer, 2010.

Weather in Denmark, is unfortunately often overcast, and without any strong thermals. (Had a 4.5 m/s ONCE..)

    Is that plane private owned?

    Keep up those awesome vids.

Im looking forward to be able to do the same as you!

  • Thanks for the kind words. :) Yes this is my glider. The ASW20BL is a fantastic cross country ship and Utah is an amazing place to fly as you could see in the video. Please take a look at my other videos. I switched to HD video after this flight and the quality is much better. Fly safe - Bruno (B4)

  • You've no idea how envious i am of this. I'm from the UK where we barely get more than 5 minute flights on a regular basis :/

  • Nice! Can't wait to get in the air. Just taking my theory lessons for a GPL. And if everything goes as planned, I'll get to take my flightlessons this summer :DD

  • unreal dude! your liveing my dream

  • IMHO it is aloved to fly VFR in Class B airspace. VFR are not aloved in Class A only. At least it is so in Europe.
