@BrandonR572 - He may have burned them so they were easier to crush and flatten out. I never really asked him the reason for burning them. The flatter the cars were the more he could haul per load.

@BrandonR572 - My dad has junked cars since the 70's. I believe you had to either remove the interior or burn it back then otherwise he never would have bothered burning it. He doesn't touch the interiors anymore.

30 years ago we stripped aluminum and copper off the cars, usually pulled the motors and sold them separate Then used a dozer to crush the cars and loaded 6 at a time on a 2 ton truck. Oh and we usually burnt the cars first to remove anything plastic or cloth. I'm sure this would have set the tree huggers off.

@30wvdirtracer - lol burning them would take weight off ;) We considered using a torch and cutting the engines and trans out, but this was too much fun to pass up

@canadiancatgreen- One was a ford escort the other was a merc. but same thing as a newer style escort. They were both junk, the white one had a bad motor and alot of other problems, and the gold one was junk car, no title, ran hot all the time and had a bad trans. we were just taking them to the scrap yard :)
