When i destroyed other cays in the 2600 version, i never thought that i was actually shooting them.

Not hardly. The 7800 still used the TIA chip from the 2600 as a cost saving measure, so the sound is really weak. Developers could put the POKEY chip from the 8- bit computers and 5200 on the cartridge itself, but that raised the price of the games so not many, if any, did that. The XM addresses that fatal weakness and adds a functionality that was intended from the beginning, which is the ability to save high scores.

@123stephenno Over 50 of them have been pre-ordered and is likely to sell even more after buzz is out after everyone has gotten their order like the "Cuttle Cart." The NES had supped up cartridges like Super Mario 3 and Kirby that added more memory to the NES; the XM is pretty much does the same thing as those cartridge only they added a Pokey chip, which is on the Atari 5200 and a YM2151 sound chip... Can't wait till they ship mine off. :D

@123stephenno Some NES games had cartridges that sported extra memory for graphics and music like "Super Mario 3"... Well this is sort what the XM does only instead of adding to the cart, it'll be put on the module where homebrewers can take advantage of the hardware.

@123stephenno Heard about the the new XM module Legacy Engineering is making for the Atari 7800? That bad boy is going to sport a Pokey chip and 2151 Yamaha chip (similar to the Sega Genesis sound chip) with extra RAM for graphics.

Also the 2600 version takes new elements, rather than being a down graded Spy Hunter II.
