Toast (Written by Tori Amos)

I recorded the piano part way back in late August 2005. I had just made the decision to leave my job and was absolutely terrified. I sat down at the piano and played and played and this was the Tori song that just kept coming up.

There is a level of raw emotion in this song that reminded me of her earlier work. I think that what attracted me to it. And I think it was that rawness that made it resonate for me so deeply during that period of my life.

Unfortunately, I didn't really know the words, so the vocal track was junk. The recording sat around on my iPod gathering electronic dust until someone requested that I sing this. It was the encouragement I needed to put this one in order.

I re-recorded the vocals in February 2007.

It is a sensitive song to cover, given that Tori wrote it after her brother's untimely death. I tried to do it as respectfully as I possibly could and I hope that sounds and shows.

This is my favorite covers to have done to date. Please don't get me wrong, I totally dig your voice and all, but I think your voice compliments this piece very well. I like better than Tori Amos' version by far!!! Keep singing bro!
