RMS Mauretania (1907) was a Trans-Atlantic ship from 1907 to 1934. The grand old ship sailed for her maiden trip in November 1907, during the World War 1 she did service as a hospital and transport ship.

In 1931 she was painted white to continue her service with her sister on the old route. In 1934 she was withdrawn from service, she wasn't needed anymore. This was to complete the Queen Mary 1 ship.

She could have been saved in 1935, the president Roosevelt traveled aboard her in the 1920's and said she wasn't worth to be scrapped. In her last months, Mauretania wasn't purchased by a new owner. It's sad that she had to be broken up, at all.

The Olympic was indeed purchased by someone, but of some problems the owner had to re-sold it to an breakers yard. It's tragic that this beautiful liners aren't there anymore.

  • Why can't anybody save historic Liners? Am I the only one who care about them?

  • @SuperTitanicfreak It was like today, they were just normal ships in their day. In 2050 we say "Save the Queen Mary 2!"

  • I have to admit that it´s a bit weird to see clips of the Mauretania 2 when thinking that this should be a video of the first Mauretania, only. And what´s with the with the doom and gloom of the song, wich suits a Titanic-video better. I mean, Nearer My God To Thee to the launch of a brand new ship? Nope, not suitable if you ask me. I´d like you to change the title of this video, please!

  • @TheTitanicSpecialist What should the video title in your mind? ;-)

  • @Abricialio It´s quite hard to say, but something like "The first Mauretania and her replacement" or "Mauretania 1 and 2".

  • @TheTitanicSpecialist Well, this entire video is about the old Mauretania from 1907. Only the launch footage is from the new Mauretania from 1938.

  • Rebuild the Mauretania???? Hell no, rebuild Titanic!!

  • ke kazzo c entra il titanic cn il MAURETANIA

  • The Mauretania was sure a gorgeous ship. She was so beautiful.

  • I have confiance that Queen Mary 2 will be saved in 2050. I will tell this. I will destroy the scrap merchants & avenge the deaths of the Ocean Liners. I will do this if it means being consumed by darkness & evil.

  • Oh want a beautiful song. The Mauretania was indeed Cunard's finest ship. I love you, Mauretania!
