Emilie Pavlína Kittlová was born into an affluent Prague family on 26 February 1878. Her mother Jindřiška was a fine singer who had appeared at the Opera Comique in Paris and her father Emanuel Kittl was a well known Czech philantropist who encouraged Emas musical studies. Ema played the violin from an early age and was considered a child prodigy, giving her first public concert at eight. By twelve her voice begun to show a great promise and she begun to study singing under the singing coach Marie Loewe-Destinn, whose name she later adopted. She also took acting lessons with the celebrated Czech actress Otýlie Sklenářová-Malá who considered her a very gifted pupil. Ema had the ability to learn a piece of music virtually on first hearing and acquired a solid vocal method so rapidly that her teacher considered her ready for a debut at twenty.

  • Une belle tête de brute,un chant assassin, tout est complet!

  • @Gardavsky It is sad, but true. The current flock of singers, male and female, have had any natural talent that they may have had trained out of them by so many bad voice teachers and the music school/conservatory system. It is a corrupt system focused on conformity with a false understanding of vocal production and feeding the egos of conductors who are even more lacking in knowledge. Mr. Cafiero is one of the few voice teachers around today who truly understands vocal technique.

  • @lewashcliffe i have to agree so much.. i have no one to listen to nowadays. thats why i dont go to opera houses any more.. i would never hear Callas live or Ponsele - all dead.. who else realy sings? maybe that young Korean girl - i dont know her name so far... but still.. i dont know..

  • Beautiful voice!!

  • one of the bests! thanks.

  • Czech soprano legend!!! My big LOVE!!! EXCELENT Tosca!!! THANKS :-)

  • My favorite of all dramatic sopranos. Her magnificent technique and glorious sound carried her passion and emotion to make the most of Puccini's glorious Tosca. Ah, if only we had Emmy with us today; listening to opera could once again be a joyous experience instead of an exercise of endurance with today's singers. Thank you, MrCafiero for sharing this wonderful recording.

  • Exquisite!

    Merci.
