Chapter 3-Going to LA
When the day finally came when I was to go to LA, my parents and sister brought me to the airport. We were all crying as they checked my bags and dropped me off at my gate. I gave them all hugs, and boarded the plane with the rest of the people, looking back at them several times.
When I was finally on the plane, I pulled it together. This is it, I thought. This is what Ive always wanted to do with my life. My dreams are finally coming true. I have to take this seriously.
The flight was long and boring. I had taken my guitar on with me as a carry on because I didnt trust the people to put it through baggage. Thankfully, no one was sitting next to me, so I stuck it in the empty seat. When there was turbulence, I held it tight. Nothing was going to happen to my guitar.
When I got to LA, it was nighttime. I picked up my bags and got a cab to the building in which the summer program was held. The students were staying in apartments inside the building. I stumbled into the lobby with all my bags and checked in. They gave me a key to my room and I waddled to the elevator to get up to the third floor. I walked down the hall to my room.
It was fairly nice, compared to what I was expecting. There were two twin beds, two nightstands, a closet, a dresser, and a bathroom off to the side. It looked as though my roommate had already checked in and settled. I set down my guitar and began unpacking my bags.
After about ten minutes or so, a girl walked into the room. She was tall and skinny. She had straight blonde hair and big blue eyes. She had on a tank and skinny jeans, some bangles, and long necklaces. She kind of reminded me of Alyson Michalka.
"Hi," she said. "You must be Sarah."
"Yeah," I said.
"I'm Anna," she said, sticking our her hand.
"Nice to meet you," I said, shaking her hand.
"You too," she said. "So, what do you do?"
"Excuse me?" I asked.
"I mean, as a musician," she said. "Any instruments you play? Sing?"
"Oh, right, sorry," I said. "I play guitar and piano, I sing, and I write."
"Wow," she said. "Good for you! I play the violin and the cello. I'm mostly into classical stuff, but I like to play a little urban every now and then. So are you, like, a hard rocker?"
"Well, sometimes," I said. "I play electric, but I mostly play acoustic. I'm really into that sound of the strings. I love to listen to violin and cello."
"We'll get along great then," said Anna. "I love listening to guitar. We should jam sometime."
"Yeah," I said. "That would be fun."
Anna and I talked for a little bit longer, and then I unpacked some more. It felt good to already have a friend. Something I always worried about when doing something new was making new friends. Anna was really nice, and I liked her. It was going to be fun having her around.
