You're not supposed to, cause the razor's edge can fray the ends of your curls, causing frizz and split ends. But this depends on the texture of your hair; if you have really loose curls, it's probably ok. If your curls are like mine, the tight spiral curls, then razor=fro.
Do not let ANY stylist use a razor on your curls, if they try, they obviously haven't worked with very many customers with curls. It's important to remember that cutting straight hair is nothing like cutting curls.
I hate the razor. It made my hair look awful and it went crap.

honestly, razoring was the worst thing I've ever done to my hair....it made it look thin! my ponytail is pitiful.
