Chinese automaker BYD Auto plans on coming to market with a new electric-hybrid vehicle in the second half of 2008. This car would offer a range of about 60 miles in full electric mode -- at least that's the claim made by BYD Auto at 2008 the North American International Auto Show.

It will be a midsize car based on the same platform as the F6, which is already sold in China.
BYD Auto is a division of BYD, the world's largest rechargeable battery manufacturer. As an independent automaker (no association whatsoever with the Chinese government), it began manufacturing cars in very limited numbers seven years ago. In 2006, BYD Auto only built 60,000 units, but last year, production capacity doubled.
This is BYD's first-ever appearance at the NAIAS

  • BYD is the world's number one cellphone battery maker, the boss is a very great businessman.Warren Buffet invested a great lot of money on it's antomotive business.

  • Hey dude, we Americans spew the most CO2 per capita, and the Chinese has barely gotten us beat in that category (I think only last year). Anyhow, I hope you don't have a beef against us Americans because watch out, we can kick some serious hairy Spanish ass, just as we did during the Spanish-American war.

  • The BYD F3DM is the world's first-ever mass-produced hybrid vehicle.

It is predicted that while other nations only have 9% hybrids in their total vehicle count, China will have over 50% hybrid vehicles.

BYD and Chery are also currently leading the world in hybrid technology and development and have some of the world's most advanced hybrid assets.

  • very good

  • hehe, you little Spain don't even know Marketing. How dare could you compare Western Automotive with anyother Asians?! The western car makers are focusing on luxury car segment, where China and India still far behind, especially India. I would not say China will never be capable of making good luxury cars as europeans, they are catching up really soon anyway.

Moreover, Japanese had taken 40 years to reach today's success as the No.1 car makers in the world, far ahead than any other counries
